Pretty Pink Posh May Release Blog Hop - Day 1

May 10, 2018

Hey there, blog friends! Wow - what a couple of days it has been. Before I get to my post for today, I just wanted to share my gratitude for all the support you have given me around Layton's Legacy. I never....I couldn't have imagined this outpouring of love & generosity, and I'm honestly at a loss for words. I don't get to be a mom in the literal sense, and most days that is really hard for me. I felt like a mom this week, during a time of year where my sensitivity to this is heightened (mother's day). And you all really helped me feel that way, and I can't thank you enough. Plus - I am going to be able to really do some tangible good for NICU parents at U of M Masonic Children's Hospital, and that feels amazing. I can only imagine that Ellie & Layton are looking down upon me, and all of you...with huge smiles on their faces.

Today I am really excited, because I am joining in with Pretty Pink Posh for their May Release Blog Hop!

This is day 1 of a two day blog hop, featuring all of the New Releases, including stamps, dies & jewels. All of the blog hop information will be at the end of my post, including the link list for the day & giveaway info. But how about we get to my card first?

I created this cute little shaker card in one of my favorite color combos - pink, gold & white! I've become so aware recently of how important it is to tell people that you care about them, and I just feel like this card would bring a smile to anyone's face. I really love how it turned out!

I did put together a process video, but will also include a how-to tutorial below for those that prefer to not watch a video.

To start, I cut an A2 card from white cardstock then set aside. Then I blended oxide inks in Worn Lipstick & Tattered Rose to a white cardstock block in an ombre gradient. I blended in a little bit of Delicata Golden Glitz ink here & there to give it a little bit of gold shimmer. Then I spritzed it with water to get the reaction with the oxides. Finally, I spritzed it with shimmer spray & flicked some gold paint splatters to it.

Next I stamped the butterfly & the word "friend". The inside of the butterfly is stamped with the same oxide inks above, including adding a little ombre gradient to it. I always blend the oxide inks a bit after adding them to a stamp - I feel like I get better coverage that way.  Then I stamped the butterfly outline & sentiment in golden glitz ink.

Next I diecut all the needed elements for my card. This included the stamped butterfly & word, the hugs shaker element, and the shaker window. I did diecut the hugs shaker multiple times & layered it together to give it some structure & rigidity. I also added a block of transparency to the back of the shaker window.

Then it was time to put the card together. I layered the inked background to the card base using foam adhesive, then scattered the jewel mixture to the front of it. Because I didn't mount the shaker window with two layers of foam tape, I made sure to flatten the jewels out as much as possible so they wouldn't get stuck. After mounting the shaker window to the front, I glued the hugs shaker diecut to the front. To finish, I adhered the butterfly & final part of the sentiment with foam dots!

Considering the card was already full of gorgeous jewels in the shaker part, I decided to leave out accenting with even more of my signature jewels tucked here & there this time. It felt like it would have been a bit overkill.... ;)

As I mentioned above, this is a blog hop with some prizes! Paulina from Pretty Pink Posh will be giving away (4) $25 gift certificates - two winners from each blog hop day. Just make sure you hop along & leave comments, because the winners will be randomly drawn from them! Comments must be left by 11:59 PM PDT on 5/14/2018. Winners will be announced on the Pretty Pink Posh blog.

Here is your link list for day 1:

Before you get on your way to the next stop, I wanted to invite you to follow me on social media! I hang out on Instagram a lot, and share my work in progress in my stories...along with REALLY cute photos of my dogs! :) Plus, I just started a YouTube channel, and while there are only a few videos right now...I will be adding new content consistently!

Have a wonderful rest of your day, and enjoy the blog hop!!

  83. What a gorgeous background, and then to add the sequins and crystals on top of it? I could stare at it all day. What a lovely idea to use the Delicata ink as the outline of your butterfly on top of everything.

And on a side note, I'm so glad that this card drive and fundraiser in honor of Layton has been a good experience for you. I don't have children yet (though I would like to), and I get a bit melancholy around this time of year too. I can't even imagine how it would feel to go through this after only having a brief time with your children. The words "I feel like a mother" I think are the perfect words to let us know how much you appreciate those donating and supporting you. Like I said, I'm so happy this has been a success monetarily and emotionally.
