Hey there, blog friends! Today I am joining in on a fun blog hop, where Winnie & Walter has collaborated with Chibitronics!
There is an amazing list of a mix of our designers, and all of that information will be at the bottom of my post...along with the giveaway information!
Today I decided to create a shaker card! This is a pretty standard shaker design that I use often, and it allowed me to focus on figuring out how to get the Chibitronics LED lights all configured & working. Friends - I was TERRIBLE at science. It is a large reason why I didn't leave high school with a 4.0, and I was sweating bullets a little bit. BUT...the starter kit that I used had amazing directions...and I got the lights to work on my first try. Considering my crazy struggle in science classes...I call that a WIN!
The very first thing I did was create the circuit on a block of 65 lb. white cardstock. I traced the diamond die so I would know where I needed to put the lights in order to be seen through the shaker card. I found a way to make the lights only turn on when you press it, but I took that mechanism out while photographing so that the lights would stay on. {I'm laughing at the word mechanism...it is a strip of cardstock. Lol!}
Once the lights were working, I adhered that block to the front of a cashmere colored card base. I placed a block of rose gold glitter paper over top of the lights and marked where they needed to poke through. Then I punched holes where the marks were located, and adhered the glitter paper over top of the lights so they were peeking through.
Next I diecut the diamond from a block of heavyweight white cardstock, then did a form of the inlaid diecut technique & put it back into its negative space. I adhered a piece of acetate to create the shaker window, then layered foam adhesive to the back so that the sequins couldn't escape. Finally, I layered the top panel over the top of a scattering of sequins, making sure the foam tape adhered well to the background.
Next I diecut the word SHINE four times: once from gold glitter paper, and three times from white cardstock. I layered them together, then adhered them over top of the shaker card using mixed media ink. Finally, I accented with my signature jewels tucked here & there!
That is my fun shaker card that lights up! As I mentioned above, I added a little strip of cardstock that interrupts the connection between the battery & the copper strip that acts as the conductor. Now, you just have to press on the larger top jewel to make it light up! SO fun!!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful card! Love all the glitter and shine! Love how you did the shaker part. You can't really see the acetate in the photos, so it looks like the sequins are sitting there on their own and it gives the die cut more dimension. Love it! The lights are perfect too. Thanks for sharing!
