SugarPea Designs - Autism Awareness Blog Hop

Happy Tuesday, blog friends! I hope you've had a great start to your week so far! Well, yesterday my blog was super busy with the Pinkfresh Studio 4th Birthday Bash, but I had also wanted to participate in the Autism Awareness blog hop as well.

So, I created a card to go on the SugarPea Design's blog post yesterday! We chose to create with a rainbow friendship theme, and all the cards turned out amazing! Awareness blog hops like this are so important - we had been told to be prepared for Layton to possibly be diagnosed with autism, or developmental delays after all the medical procedures he would have needed....and that they weren't sure of the level of severity. It didn't turn out that way for us because we lost him at 5 months old, but my eyes were definitely opened to all the things he would have likely faced.

I think it is so important for us to teach both children AND adults to have compassion for those that are different from us...that they are precious & worthy of love, friendship and inclusion.  Today, I created this sweet little friendship card in honor of just that.

To start, I created an A2 sized card from white cardstock and set aside. Next I cut two white cardstock blocks the same size, and set one aside. On the other block I blended distress inks in a rainbow gradient, then sprinkled with water droplets. I picked up the droplets with a paper towel to reveal where the water reacted with the inks. Then I adhered the block to the card front with Scor Tape. {I wanted really bold rainbow colors, so I chose to use my standard distress inks instead of my oxide inks this time.}

Next I grabbed the other white cardstock block and diecut the Large Striped Coverplate from it. I added foam tape (trimming it down in size for the really thin stripes) and adhered it to the top of the card front.

Then I proceeded to work on the sentiment. First I diecut the word You four times - once from glitter paper and three times from white cardstock. Then I adhered them together with my Zig two way glue pen. Next I stamped & heat embossed the sentiment in white to a black cardstock strip, then cut banner edges to it. I layered these to the front over top of a knot of gold thread, popping the sentiment strip with foam dots.

The final step was to accent with my signature jewels tucked here & there!
