Papertrey Ink February Blog Hop Challenge

Hey there, blog friends! I hope this Sunday finds you having had an AMAZING weekend! We got what feels like a foot of snow yesterday & overnight, so we have had a quiet weekend indoors. We knew it was coming, so I did all the necessary grocery shopping on Friday afternoon so we wouldn't have to venture out unless it was an absolute emergency.

When I recieved the Papertrey Ink email this morning with their February Blog Hop info posted...I decided I REALLY wanted to break out some of my PTI stuff. I haven't used any of it since before losing Ellie & Layton, so it was time to put it to good use.

We may have just gotten a foot of snow, but I'm not going to let that dampen my spring spirit! :) I decided to use a PTI blast from the past....Friendship Jar Spring Fillers! When I purchased this stamp set, I was not comfortable with flowers or coloring in any fashion - so I never used the gorgeous tulip image that is included. I decided that today was the perfect day to finally ink it up!

I started by stamping the tulips to heavyweight white cardstock in onyx black Versafine ink using my MISTI. {I always use my MISTI when stamping images like this, just in case I don't get a good impression the first time.} I hit the stamped image with my heat gun, just to make sure the ink was dry.

Then I proceeded to watercolor the tulips with my Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers, and a #2 sized watercolor brush.  I purposely chose to not use watercolor paper, as I wasn't using a ton of water on the stamped image. I have found that sometimes I get more of the look I'm going for when using regular heavyweight cardstock in place of watercolor paper.

Next I added some glitter to the flowers with my Wink of Stella clear glitter pen, then diecut the tulip block with a scalloped regtangle. I splattered some black paint drops to the front using my set of watercolor cakes & a #4 sized watercolor brush. Then I set it aside to dry completely. {Adding black paint splatter is not everyone's cup of tea, so just leave that step out if you prefer!}

While it was drying, I diecut the tag from white cardstock and stamped the sentiment to it in onyx black Versafine ink using my MISTI. Then I cut & folded an A2 card base from lemon cardstock, and diecut a matching stitched mat. I adhered the stitched mat to the card front, then set aside. Finally, I tied a double bow from ivory burlap twine.

Then it was time to put the card together! I adhered the watercolor tulip block to the card front using fun foam. I glued the burlap bow near the top of the stems, then popped the sentiment tag over top of it with foam dots.

To finish, I accented the card with my signature jewels here & there, tucking one of them a little bit under the sentiment tag.

I had a terrible time trying to photograph the shimmer that the Wink of Stella pen added to the flowers. It is SO pretty in real life, but I was losing light quickly when I shot my card this evening. I'll see if I can get it better tomorrow, and will add it to my post if I do!

ETA: I did get some better shots of the Wink of Stella glittering that I added to the tulips. There are some in the images above, and here is one that I took specifically to showcase it!

That is my sweet Spring themed card for you today! Hopefully it makes you feel a little bit of excitement for Spring...whenever that happens in your neck of the woods. And I hope it also makes you look at your older stamp sets with new eyes! We invest a lot of money into our supplies, and I love that a stamp set that I purchased years ago is still as relevant & beautiful today as it was back then.
