Countown to Confetti - Christmas Candles

September 7, 2018

Hi there, blog friends! Welcome to day 2 of Countown to Confetti! Today I've got two cards to share with you using more of Reverse Confetti's new release!

Today we are featuring three holiday themed stamp sets, and I am excited about using all three of them. But today I focused on just the Christmas Candles stamp set. This week tragedy has hit my extended family, and while it is not my place to give any details...it has left me unsettled & asking questions that will likely be left unanswered. But as I created this card, I felt some peace...even if for just a moment. There is something about candles, candlelight and the warmth that they radiate - I'm not Catholic, but I feel a connection to their ritual of lighting candles for others when they pray.

Thank you for giving me that moment of reflection. This stamp set might be my very favorite from this entire new release - the sentiments are beautiful, and I just love all the candle options!

To start, I stamped & heat embossed the candle rays to the middle of a heavyweight white cardstock panel in Brutus Monroe Gilded embossing powder. I just recently got this powder, and it might be my favorite gold right now. It also sets quickly & beautifully - I highly recommend it. Once the embossing was cool, I ink blended the candlelight glow in Wild Honey & Scattered Straw distress inks. Then I blended some shimmer over them with Delicata Golden Glitz ink. It was impossible to photograph, but the light shimmer just makes this section glow!

Once finished, I mounted the ink blended panel to the front of a black top folding A2 card with foam adhesive. I like to have a full panel of foam cut slightly smaller than the cardstock block, so I typically create my own with white foam and 2.5 inch ScorTape. This makes it so I don't get any weird indents or warping (especially when using water), and gives my cards the added dimension that I love.

Next I stamped the candle & holly images to a white cardstock panel in onyx black Versafine ink, and the pine boughs in Catherine Pooler Eucalyptus ink. The I colored in the candle & holly leaves with Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers. Here are the colors I used:

Candle flame: orange, bright yellow, yellow
Candlestick: pale gray, blender
Berries: deep red, geranium red, blender
Holly leaves: deep green, emerald green, pale green

I ended up covering the berries with red jewels, so coloring them was a tad pointless. But, I still gave you the colors above in case you wanted to try it out without the jewel accents! Once the coloring was set, I cut them all out with their coordinating diecut.

Next I mounted the candle to the middle of the card with thin foam strips, then added the pine boughs & holly to the bottom of it. I used mixed media adhesive so I could have a bit of time to push them around and get them just right before the glue set permanently. Then I added shimmer to all of the pieces with my Tonic Aqua Shimmer pens in both Glitter Gloss & Midas Touch. I love the warmth that the Midas Touch pen added to them!

Then I stamped & heat embossed the sentiment to a strip of vellum in the same Gilded embossing powder used above. I adhered it across the top of the candle, tucking it in slightly underneath some of the pine boughs so that I could hide the adhesive. I realized I was out of vellum adhesive, so I just used some glue dots to tack it down. Finally, I added the red jewels to the holly berries to finish.

These are just some details shots, in hopes of trying to better show all the shimmer I've added to this card. While shooting something directly lit by the sun is normally a no-no, it is a good way to show shimmer!

This stamp set is really, really beautiful and as I said above, is likely my favorite from this release! It, along with all the other new items will be available for purchase in the Reverse Confetti shop on September 8th at midnight!
