Spellbinders + Cut Cardstock - Watercolor Splatter Technique

Happy Friday, blog friends! Are you ready for the weekend?! I certainly am! We are going to Florence + the Machine concert on Saturday evening, which I am SO excited for. And then I leave for Arizona on Sunday afternoon for a very quick trip - I am doing something for Pinkfresh Studio that I will share at a later date. I am a bit nervous about it, but totally excited too!

A few weeks ago I was asked if I would like to try some cardstock that is new to me, and do an "Influencer" campaign for a company called Cut Cardstock. I don't really know if I am an influencer, but I do like to share what I love. Before saying yes, I looked around their website, and checked things out. I was particularly touched by their video in the About Us section of their website. It is a true testiment of a business that started small and has organically grown in size...but you still know that every single sale truly impacts this family run business and all of its employees. Plus, they are really knowledgeable about cardstock.

You may not know this about me, but I am super picky about cardstock, and a bit of a "snob" when it comes it. I think this stems from the professional photographer in me - I am really super picky about everything I offer as a wedding photographer. I only offer the highest quality fine art papers for my prints, albums & cards...which I think spills over into the cardmaker in me. I was super excited about everything in their Heavyweight Cardstock selection, not to mention the Stardream Metallic selection, and the Glitter selection.

For my card today, I have created this really pretty Thanksgiving themed card using some items from Cut Cardstock, Spellbinders dies, an older stamp set from Simon Says Stamp, and some Lawn Fawn 6x6 patterned paper. {Everything I've used is linked at the end of the post in my supply list.} I recently started subscribing to Spellbinders Die of the Month club - and I've opted for the Big Die set & Small Die set combo. Today I am using the small sets from September & October.

This video is a little different than my other videos, as I shared all the different cardstock options I picked for my first Cut Cardstock order. I hope that you find it informational, and I hope that you liked a look into my creative process as well! I know that not everyone loves to watch process videos, so I will still continue to do write-ups for projects too. To start I diecut all of the pieces from heavyweight white cardstock 2 times, and then the wreath and word "happy" from gold glittered paper once. I adhered the leaf, acorn & word layers together, but left the wreath layers separate.

Next I applied a water wash to all of the layers except the word, then proceeded to flick Pinkfresh Studio liquid watercolor splatters to it in the following colors: espresso, sky blue, sunshine & clementine. I let the pieces all dry naturally, but then hit the wreaths with a heat gun to make sure they were bone dry. Then I added some gold paint splatters to all of the layers as well.

I stamped the Happy Thanksgiving sentiment to white cardstock in onyx black Versafine, then trimmed it into a thin strip. At this point it was time to start putting the card together. I mounted the Lawn Fawn plaid paper block using foam adhesive to the front of an A2 card created from heavyweight white cardstock. Then I added the wreath layers to the front with mixed media adhesive. After that I adhered the word happy and all the leaf/acorn accents to the front. Then finally I tucked the sentiment under the word happy, and trimmed off the excess.

The final step was adding my signature jewels tucked here & there.
