Glitz Design "Color Me Happy" Blog Hop

February 28, 2013

Happy Thursday, everyone!!  Well, we have exciting things going on at Glitz Design right now....and one of them is the creation of a monthly blog hop!  Today the entire design team is showcasing some lovely projects featuring the Color Me Happy collection!

To finish out the month of February, I have created a super sweet love card for my blog post today!  But let's face it....it isn't very often that my cards aren't love themed in some way, shape or form....so just go with it!

And of course....a blog hop isn't a blog hop without a list of blogs to completely inspire you to want to create something, like...right now!  Tee hee!  Here is the blog hop order!

I also have a little Glitz Design prize that I will send to one lucky commenter from my blog comments...the prize consists of some washi tape rolls from the last release, and some fabulous Cashmere Dame embellishments as well!!
I will announce a winner on Sunday at some point....so you have until then to leave a comment!  And if you want to become a follower of my blog, I would love that!  But it isn't a requirement by any means!

Your next stop is Audrey's blog on the list above....so get to hopping!  I hope that you've enjoyed my Color Me Happy project today!

Thank You So Much

February 26, 2013

Happy Tuesday, everyone!!  I hope you had a great beginning of your week!  The last time I posted was Saturday, when I had an engagement session up at my family's farm in Ronan.  The shoot went great, and my couple was really excited about having the farm as their backdrop.  I've done a quick run through of the images...and they are fantastic! I can't wait to get in there and really start editing.  While I was doing that, Josh was finishing up the redo of our bathroom....and it looks amazing!  I cleaned it and put up the finishing touches on Sunday, and we just love how it turned out.  It is so warm and cozy in there now...no longer stark white!  Today I enjoyed Oula after not being able to go for three days...it was so nice to just dance for an hour!  Then I accompanied Josh to lunch, made some cards, had dinner together....you know- just the norm. :)

Today I have my next post as this month’s guest designer for Precious Remembrance Shop!! I am enjoying the Thanks Stamp Set so much this month, and am excited to share my projects with you!

Last time I went pretty clean & simple with my creations, so for today’s post I focused on a more layered, product-oriented style. The Thanks Stamps set was the perfect match for the product that I used on my cards today! Up first is a card using some brand new Studio Calico and some other fun embellishments!
Instructions:
1. Make A2 card from oatmeal cardstock, then round the lower right corner.
2. Cut a strip of feather paper, and round the same corner.
3. Layer the feather paper to the right side of the card, with a doily & gold tab peeking out under the left side.
4. Add a tape measure sticker over top of the doily & gold tab.
5. Layer a journaling card, sentiment card, a pink banner, and a vellum banner together.
6. Stamp the sentiment to the vellum, set with heat, then stitch along the right side of it.
7. Adhere the entire block to the front, then tuck a jeweled circle sticker under the top.
8. Add a diecut arrow & wood veneer conversation bubble to the front.
9. Accent with a clear button, printed rhinestone, sequins & pearls.
10. Add a gold photo corner to the upper left to finish.

Challenges:
-Studio Calico Sunday Sketch
-Simon Says Stamp challenge - Arrow
-Ooh La La Creations #124 - Sparkle & Shine

This next card turned into a love card after all was said & done…ha! I made a comment on my blog the other day that I can never have enough love themed product because the majority of my cards end up being about love in some way, sort or fashion! I paired the Thanks Stamp Set with some brand new Glitz Design product for this card, and they worked together perfectly!
Instructions:
1. Make A2 card from kraft cardstock.
2. Cut background paper slightly smaller, then adhere.
3. Cut a rainbow striped paper block, then adhere to the top.
4. Add a strip of woodgrain washi tape to the bottom, then tie ribbon around the middle.
5. Add a jewel to the center of the bow.
6. Diecut a notebook paper shape from woodgrain paper, then stamp the top of it.
7. Add a strip of washi tape underneath, then add the rest of the stamped sentiments to the top of it.
8. Add an X to the stamped top, then adhere the entire piece to the card front.
9. Fussy cut the Love piece, then adhere with a geotag symbol, epoxy stickers & a jewel to the globe in the background.
10. Accent the lower left corner with jewels to finish.

Challenges:
-Retro Sketches #52 - Past Sketch (#19)
-The Kraft Journal #110 - Use Any Sketch
-Frosted Designs Fabulous Friday - Bold Color & Pattern

I hope that you've enjoyed my cards today!!  Have a wonderful rest of your Tuesday!  I will be back again soon with more cards to share!

Until later,
~L.

I Love You Like Crazy!! ♥

February 23, 2013

Happy Saturday, friends!!  Did you have a good Friday?  Josh and I have officially ripped our bathroom apart, and are updating it a bit.  We live in a subdivision...so of course, our bathrooms are just cookie cutter, standard bathrooms.  And while we aren't replacing the big things (shower, sink, etc....), we ARE painting it, putting in new hardware, a beautiful new mirror....and purchased plush beautiful new towels.  We have been using the same towels that we received when we got married...almost 11 years.  Folks- it was time.  Ha!!!

I will be heading up to Ronan for the day in a little bit, because the couple I am shooting today really wanted a farm/country feel to their photos.  Enter Hocker Farms...my family's farm.  I was actually really excited when the couple said they were game for driving up there and just spending the day with me on the farm.  I think it is going to be an awesome shoot today!  I know this is my card blog, but I did just post my most recent engagement session on my photography blog....so feel free to check it out if you'd like!!

Today I have another love themed card to share with you (big surprise...that is mostly what I create), using the Glitz Design "Uncharted Waters" collection.  I ADORE this collection!  While it has a nautical theme to it...its not so themey that you can't use it for other subjects, and the addition of gold to the collection was just GENIUS.  LOVE!  Without further ado, here is what I made!
Instructions:
1. Make A2 card from yellow cardstock.
2. Cut striped paper slightly smaller, and adhere to the front.
3. Cut a floral paper block, and adhere to the middle.
4. Add two strips of "choose happiness" washi tape to the seams of the floral block.
5. Cut the day tabs from patterned paper, and adhere at the top.
6. Add a diecut Polaroid frame to the front, then accent with two strips of washi tape.
7. Diecut a tag from patterned paper, then layer to the bottom right of the frame with a large jewel.
8. Add the gold alpha stickers to both sides of the jewel.
9. Add the sentiment sticker to the middle of the card with foam adhesive to finish.

Challenges:
-Delightful Challenge - Sketch
-Simon Says Stamp challenge - Arrow(s)
-Crafty Ann's #83 - Love
-Word Art Wednesday #68 - Anything Goes

Well, there is my card for today!  Do you love the Uncharted Waters collection as much as I do?!!  I can't wait to see what everyone starts creating with this fabulous collection...

So, I have some Bible study notes to share with you today....so why don't we get right to it.
Romans 1: 18-32
Yeah- so my Bible titles this section "God's Wrath Against Sinful Humanity".  Awesome.  And just about as fun to read.  Ha!  At first, I was like, so we went from reading this beautiful introduction about Jesus....into this?!  Really...really?  But alas, it's time to move on because Paul apparently had a lot to write the Romans about.
Yes- there are a lot of behaviors & actions listed in this section, but I'm not going to focus on them.  I am going to focus on what stirred in my heart as I studied these verses.  Have you ever had to let someone go from your life to keep them from hurting you or being a toxic presence?  I have, and it's not an easy thing to do.  I love them still, but I just couldn't do it any longer.
That made me think of God, and how He must feel when someone that He created & loves, someone who knows of His power & grace....just turns their back on Him.  While I know that I can let daily life get in the way of seeking God with all my heart at times, the Holy Spirit is a great gentle reminder of that.  I can't imagine just ever walking away from God, knowing the grace & mercy & power He has poured into my life.
But I can admit that I did struggle with part that says, "Therefore God gave them over to....."  Does this mean that they no longer have any hope?  Was God just giving up on them completely?  This didn't sit well with me, so I asked about it in our small group a couple of weeks ago, and came to this.  There is always hope, until we are dead.  God doesn't give up on us, but He does give us free will.  By nature, we choose self over God....which includes acting on our sinful nature.
But I think so often we can't get past this.  All of the things we have done in life that fill us with guilt & shame.  I am reminded that God is always there, always willing to forgive...that is the whole purpose of what Jesus did on the cross for us.  So, I included the letting go graphic above, because I think we all need the reminder.  Let go of the things that fill you with guilt and shame and hurt...it will be okay.  It will be better than okay....

Until later,
~L.

All You Need is Love

February 21, 2013

Happy Thursday, everyone!!  Are you happy that the weekend is almost here?!  I will be working for a little bit this weekend, because I have an engagement session to shoot on Saturday.  Which I am excited about...I love shooting people who are newly engaged and so much in love!!  Josh got home today from his week in Casper, WY and Billings....and he brought me home some super awesome stuff from World Market!  I am going to share some of my Instagram shots at the bottom of the post, and you will get to see what he got me!!

Today I have a super sweet love card to share with you!  I know, I know...Valentine's day is over, but I make love cards all year long.  They are my fave to make!!  I don't have a problem over-purchasing the amazing Valentine collections that are released each year, because they are typically in my favorite colors & always have non-themed papers that can be used all year long!  I used a combination of Crate Paper & Studio Calico, plus some other odds & ends here and there.  Here is my card!!
Instructions:
1. Make A2 card from vintage cream cardstock.
2. Cut grid paper slightly smaller, then adhere a heart paper strip to the top.
3. Adhere a 3x4 chevron block to the left side of the card, then add a red banner strip to the top of it.
4. Diecut two hearts from vellum & number paper, then layer together to the top of the banner strip.
5. Zigzag stitch down the middle of the hearts, then adhere the entire paper block to the card front.
6. Layer the the vellum sentiment sticker with some tabs & a doily to the card front.
7. Add a glitter photo corner & grey diecut bracket to the lower left corner.
8. Add a little piece of doily to the upper left side of the card.
9. Accent the front with jewel, sequins & a pearl to finish.

Challenges:
-Studio Calico Sunday Sketch
-Crate Paper Creative Weekly - Love Red
-City Crafter #147 - Glitter
-Loves Rubberstamps #40 - Lots of Layers

The jewels, pearls & sequins are all from Michael's, so they aren't linked on my supply list above.  They have these great jewel/pearl sets in the $2.00 bins that are in an actual aisle...not the basket dividers at the front of the store.  If you like to embellish with bling....you might want to go check them out!!  (You will also see them in one of my Instagram photos below!)

Speaking of, how about I share some Instapics for you?  It's been awhile since I shared any, so I will pick just some of my recent faves!  If you want to follow me on Instagram, just search for @ltllea23.  I would love to see you on there!
The first photo is my sassy little cocker who was annoyed that she wasn't getting her way with me!  The second is a night out with my cute friend, Alex.  That awesome metallic bag is a photo that makes me sad...because I am sending it back.  It is a camera bag/purse....but it is completely non-functional for my equipment.  Sad face.  Then it is my cute little Sadie again...ready for bed the other night.  Then it was my Michael's haul from a couple days ago....new Heidi Swapp, sale/clearance Martha & those awesome jewel packs.  And last, but definitely not least, is proof that I have the best husband ever.  He went to World Market in Billings while he was gone this week.  He got me some cardamom (YUM!!!!), 2 sugar-free vanilla syrups, and the clear jars I want to replace the ugly blue ones I have had since college...with those CUTE chalkboard labels.  SO excited!!  He also got himself some curry powder & star anise for cooking.

Alright all...that is all I have for you today!  I will be back at some point tomorrow with another card, and some Bible study notes!!  Have a great Thursday!

Until later,
~L.

ME Stamp Highlight: Rustic Spring

February 19, 2013

Happy Tuesday, everyone! I hope you had wonderful Monday!  Mine was pretty quiet...which was nice!  I scored some of the Heidi Swapp line that is now in Michael's, along with some sale & clearance Martha Stewart items, and some $2.00 packs of pearls/jewels. I think it was quite a haul!  Plus- I got some really cute tops at TJ Maxx for when we are in Texas in early April, and for when it finally gets warm here in the 406.  Ha!  Actually...we have had spring like weather, but spring in MT is a little different then spring everywhere else.  :)

Today we are showcasing the new Mama Elephant stamp set called "Rustic Spring".  This is a tag building set, but as you will see...doesn't have to be used that way.  I paired it with the Crate Paper "Fourteen" collection, for what I think makes a super sweet home card! Here is what I made!
Instructions:
1. Make A2 card from vintage cream cardstock.
2. Cut heart paper slightly smaller.
3. Cut a banner edge to map paper, then adhere to the bottom of the heart paper.
4. Zigzag stitch along the top of the banner, then adhere the entire paper block to the card front.
5. Stamp the sentiment directly above the stitching.
6. Stamp the house to the banner, then stamp it to woodgrain paper, & pink chevron paper.
7. Cut out the corresponding layers, glitter the top, and layer to the banner.
8. Diecut a teeny heart from felt, and adhere to the middle of the house.
9. Add a little doily strip & a fussy cut heart to the upper right corner.
10. Accent with a felt star, jewels & pearls as shown to finish.

Challenges:
-CAS(E) This Sketch! #15 - Sketch

February 18, 2013

Happy Monday, everyone!!  Did you have a good Sunday?  I said goodbye to Josh for the week as he is traveling for business, and then had a pretty quiet morning.  I went to Oula at 2pm, had some lunch afterwards, and then got showered and ready for church.  Other than that, the day wasn't too eventful!!

Today we are highlighting the new Mama Elephant stamp set called "Modern Borders".  I got my rainbow on for this card, and inked up the scalloped border in shades of ROYGBIV.....ha!!  I combined the rainbow border with a sentiment from "Smitten", and I think they worked together perfectly!  Check it out!

ME Stamp Highlight: Say What

February 17, 2013

Happy Sunday, all!  How has your weekend been so far?  We were pretty lazy yesterday, which was nice! Except...Josh made us the yummiest dinner!  It was SO good, and I have tons of leftovers for when he is gone this coming week.  We caught up on a bunch of our DVR'd shows, and then watched a movie called The Bang Bang Club.  It is graphic & gruesome, but a true story based on photojournalists in South Africa in the early 90's.  Obviously, it is something near to my heart, and I found it quite interesting, and heartbreaking, and redeeming in a way.  It is not a movie for everyone, but I am glad that I took the time to watch it.

Today we are showcasing the new Mama Elephant stamp set called "Say What".  This is a sassy little stamp set, full of super fun sentiments!  I just LOVE it!  I paired this stamp set with Glitz Design's "Color Me Happy" collection (which you can find at many stores now, including 2Peas, Simon Says Stamp, Scrapbook.com & A Cherry On Top to name just a few)...and they fit just perfectly!!  Here is what I created:
Instructions:
1. Make A2 card from black cardstock.
2. Cut dotted paper slightly smaller, then adhere a woodgrain paper strip diagonally across the middle.
3. Cut off the excess, then add yellow sticker to the top left side.
4. Add washi tape strips to the top & bottom of the woodgrain strip.
5. Adhere the journal card to the front with foam adhesive, then accent with hearts & book paper.
6. Add a jeweled sticker tucked under the left side of card, then accent with a star sequin & jewels.
7. Stamp the sentiment to chalkboard paper, cut out and adhere to the bottom of the card.
8. Tie a double bow from twine, thread a button around the middle and adhere below the yellow sticker.
9. Finish the sentiment on the inside with teeny alphas.

Challenges:
-Sketchbook Saturday #89 - Sketch
-Fab N Funky #158 - Finish the Inside
-Crafty Creations #209 - Hearts
-Charisma Cardz #6 - Anything Goes

ME Stamp Highlight: So Breezy

February 16, 2013

Happy Saturday, everyone!!  I hope that you're having a good weekend so far.  We had a good time just hanging out with some of our good friends last night.  Today we are going to laze around a bit, clean the house & Josh is going to make a dinner that we saw on one of Gordon Ramsay's shows.  I think it is going to be really yummy!

Today we are showcasing the new Mama Elephant stamp set called "So Breezy".  This stamp has a sweet spring feel to it, but can be used for so many different types of sentiments.  I chose to go with a love themed sentiment, with a fun little cluster of love & heart embellishments!  And of course...a doily never hurts.  Ha!  Here is what I created:
Instructions:
1. Make A2 card from kraft cardstock, then round the lower right corners.
2. Wrap a heart shaped doily around the left side of the card.
3. Stamp the flight trail, airplane and sentiment to the card front.
4. Cluster some stickers, pearls, a pin & velvet flower to the middle of the paper doily.
5. Color in the word "love" with a colored pencil.

Sweet As Can Be

February 13, 2013

Happy Wednesday, everyone!!  Yay for being the middle of the week!!  Are you ready for Valentine's day tomorrow?  I have everything purchased {I think}, and I just need to get some packages together.  We are having a split Valentine's day, because we have things going on tomorrow night that can't be skipped.  SO- we went to the movie "Warm Bodies" last night {which was SO cute}, and then are going to make a big breakfast together tomorrow & exchange gifts.  It's fun kind-of celebrating all week long, don't you think?

I have a sweetheart of a Valentine's day card to share with you today!  I am just LOVING how this car turned out....I think it is one of my latest faves!  It's a mix of Studio Calico & Crate Paper, with some older odds & ends thrown in here and there.  Can I tell you my fave part?  The fact that I left the stiching strings as is...no pulling through and making all perfect.  I love the little bit of eclectic that it adds to the card front.  Might seem silly...but I LOVE it! Tee hee!  Without further ado, here is the card-
Instructions:
1. Make A2 card from kraft cardstock.
2. Cut background paper slightly smaller, then adhere a banner cut paper strip to the middle.
3. Add the pink paper square to the middle, then layer a tag, and 2 hearts to it.
4. Zigzag stitch down the middle of the hearts, then adhere the entire paper block to the card front.
5. Tuck a tab sticker in the upper right corner of the pink block, then accent the tag with a fabric brad.
6. Layer the sentiment stickers & dies to the middle of the card, overlapping the hearts.
7. Add the wood veneer & arrow diecut below the tab sticker.
8. Embellish the front with sequins, gems & pearls to finish.

Challenges:
-Studio Calico Sunday Sketch - Sketch
-Runway Inspired #29 - DSquared2 Insp. Photo
-Divas By Design #81 - Love & Romance
-Penny's Paper Crafty #114 - Favorite Colors

There are a couple things I used on the card that are older and not available in the stores on my linking thing.  The gems & sequins are from Michael's, and the fabric brad is from K & Company a few years ago.  The diecut arrow & little circles are from Teresa Collins "Sweet Afternoon" collection, and the glitzer behind the map heart is from the "Happy Travels" collection by Glitz Design.  I think everything else is accounted for....ask questions if you have them!! ;)

Alright...so I introduced sharing my Bible Study notes last September, but have been so busy that something had to give a little.  Now- I have not given up doing my Bible study....I just haven't been posting my notes.  Well, we have started studying Paul's letter to Rome....and I figured it was time to bring the notes back.  Romans is one of my favorite books in the Bible, and I am excited to study it further, more in depth and share my findings and feelings with you!!  Just to serve as a reminder...this is a judgement free zone.  I will not ever cast my judgement upon anyone...I might even be annoyed with what I read or how I feel at times.  This is me, sharing about what was stirred in my heart as I read....which might not be what someone else would take from the same words.  So, without further introduction...

Romans 1:1-7
Belong.
1. to be the property or possession (of)
2. to be bound to by ties of affection, dependence, allegiance or membership
3. to be classified
4. to be a part or adjunct of
5. to have a proper or usual place
When I read Paul's introduction in his letter to Rome, the sense of "belonging" jumps out at me.  As humans, we all want to belong somewhere, with someone...to be important in some way.  And the thing is....we are.  "And you also are among those gentiles who are called to belong to Jesus Christ." (verse 6)  One of my latest fave songs is "Ho Hey" by The Lumineers.  There is a part in the song that says, "I belong with you, you belong with me. You're my sweetheart."  I read an interview with the band, & it was interesting to find out that the song was not written as a love song.  It was about a time when they were struggling as musicians, about lost love & lost dreams.  While the band didn't expound much further on that, I do wonder if the song was written as a reminder of how much they love music...no matter if they never made it big.  As I go back to the scriptures I studied for today, I think it is amazing how often we are reminded throughout the Bible of how much God loves us.  But, I think there is a purpose behind that....we NEED the reminder.  We have been freely given grace through Jesus.  I can belong to Him if I want to.  I just think we so easily forget that when we get caught up in our daily lives & relationships. Earthly relationships can be fleeting, but Jesus is with me forever.

So- today is Ash Wednesday, and the beginning of Lent.  Are you giving up anything for lent in order to focus on God more?  I have one thing I am giving up, more for health reasons....but then it is also my intent to very specifically pray for someone very dear to me....every. single. day.  I am giving up Coke Zero (well, all soda in general).  It's not like I drink gallons of it per day or anything, but I have made it my treat for drinking water.  And I want to get past that....thus giving it up for Lent.  It might be the only way that I actually do it.  So- here's to trying! Ha!

That is all I have for you today!  I hope you have a great rest of your Wednesday!!

Until later,
~L.

Sunshine & Love ♥♥♥

February 12, 2013

Hey there, everyone! Welcome to my second post guest designing for Precious Remembrance Shop! I have enjoyed using the new Thanks Stamp Set so far this month, and I am excited to share my creations with you!!

Valentine's Day is this week, so it seemed fitting to create some cards with a little bit of love in mind. Both of my cards that I will be sharing with you today use the CAS(E) This Sketch! #14, which is such a versatile & fabulous sketch!  Flip it around in different ways, and you can create a completely different card each time!!  Up first is a card using the sunshine sentiment for the stamp set!
Instructions:
1. Make A2 card from oatmeal cardstock.
2. Cut a strip of yellow polka dot paper, and adhere to the top.
3. Stamp the sunrays to the top left side of the dotted paper.
4. Stamp the sentiment below the dotted paper with right hand alignment.
5. Layer the chipboard sun below the sunrays, then accent the middle with a yellow jewel.
6. Diecut the clouds from oatmeal cardstock, then layer to the bottom of the chipboard sun.
7. Add the story diecut, then accent with sequins & pearls to finish.

Challenges:
-Delightful Challenge - Spring Colors
-Charisma Cardz #5 - Love
-Word Art Wednesday #66 - Anything Goes

Just a quick note on the supplies- the patterned paper I used here is from a 6x6 paper pad from Basic Grey called Shine On.  After doing some research, this was a collection made exclusively for JoAnn Fabric Stores, but I am unsure if it is even still available in their stores.  I received it in a publication incentive box from Northridge Media...and it is SUCH cute paper.  If you can get your hands on it, definitely try!

And this might be my favorite sentiment from the Thanks Stamp Set. It makes me think of the amazing people I have in my life that truly make me smile, no matter the storms of life that I might be passing through.

Because I am not available every single Tuesday this month to post, I am doubling up on the Tuesdays that I do have available....so I have another card to share with you! This one is a little more traditional in terms of Valentine's Day and celebrating love! Check it out!
Instructions:
1. Make A2 card from oatmeal cardstock, then round the lower right corner.
2. Cut an XOXO border from kraft cardstock & red cardstock.
3. Adhere the kraft border to the bottom of the card.
4. Stamp the row of X's directly below the border, then add the banner to the top of it.
5. Diecut a circle from oatmeal cardstock, then stamp the heart sentiment to it.
6. Trim the red XOXO border, layer to the stamped circle and adhere to the right side of the card.
7. Cover a chipboard heart in gold glitter, then layer to the right side of the circle accent with a red brad & clear jewel.
8. Add a jewel circle around the circle sentiment, trimming off the unnecessary section.
9. Embellish with gold star confetti & a clear jewel to finish.

Challenges:
-Simon Says Stamp - Hearts
-V's Sweet #8 - Love
-Top Tip Tuesday #95 - Hearts & Romance
-Ribbon Carousel #77 - Love is in the Air
-Inspired By Stamping #45 - Color Challenge (cream, light brown, red)
-CASology #31 - Red

♥♥ Tip:  I messed up the heart stamp set somehow, but rather than scrapping it completely & starting over....I added the XOXO border diecut in red over top of it....and it gave my mess-up an artistic feel! I was so excited when I saw how it turned out!! ♥♥

What I love about this stamp set, is that while it is mainly a Thank You sentiment based set....I was able to create these two loved theme cards from it as well! I love when a stamp set is versatile, and you can create multiple types of cards from it...it definitely gives you more value for your money! {And in this economy....who doesn't need their dollar to go the extra mile?!}

I hope that you enjoyed my cards today, and I will be back in another two weeks to share a couple more with you!!  Have a great rest of your Tuesday!!

Until later,
~L.
